Australian representatives, Dean Springfield and Shellie Davis went back to school on Friday as part of the 2016 ‘Go West’ campaign.

Springfield and Davis were involved in a clinic with students at James Erskine Public School, celebrating all that is great about Western Sydney.

The ‘Go West’ campaign aims to make a real difference in the Western Sydney community, while also celebrating the contribution made by its residents to the city.

For Springfield Friday’s event was even more special, returning to his old primary school.

Springfield said he has a lot of good memories from the school and was glad to be back.

“I was pretty excited when I got the email to come out and help the kids. A lot has changed since I’ve been back here, but I’m excited to come back,” Springfield said.

“I really enjoyed today, it was great to come back and visit my old primary school, the kids were great and had fun and loved it.

“Growing up in the west was different to growing up in the city obviously, I just love it in the west.”

It hasn’t been long between school visits for Davis, who only graduated year 12 last year, but she enjoyed her return.

“I had heaps of fun, the kids were so good. I loved hanging with them,” Davis said.

“Growing up playing sport and having that healthy lifestyle in your life is a really important thing.”

Despite residing in Manly, Davis was full of praise for Western Sydney.

“It’s a great place and it’s good for kids to get involved in sport, when I play for (NSW) Mets, I travel out here a lot and I see how competitive everyone is out here, it’s awesome.”

Comedian Tahir Bilgic and Actor Sam Alhage, both ‘Go West’ ambassadors, were also part of the event, as well as New South Wales Touch Association Development Officers, Pat Batiste and Stacey Parker.

Students Shirley and Jane were full of praise for the clinic and loved having Springfield and Davis at their school.

“I had lots of fun and it was a nice experience to go outside and be active. I like how we get to play games and run around and have fun,” Shirley said.

“I really enjoyed just being outside, being active and meeting lots of people and getting to know people in our school that I didn’t know before,” Jane said.

“You don’t really get to meet people like (Dean and Shellie) and I also learnt that Dean used to come to this school.”
