Last year’s finalists lead the way at the end of day one of the National Touch League in the women’s Elite Eight series at C.ex Coffs International Stadium.

New South Wales Mets and their counterparts Scorpions are one and two after three rounds of the competition.

Both teams are on 10 points with two wins and a draw.

The Mets lead the way on for and against, and showed they will be a tough team to beat as they defeated The Alliance 11-4 and New South Wales Country Mavericks 9-6.

They drew 3-all with the fancied Queensland Chiefs.

The Scorpions have had one touchdown victories over the Mavericks (6-5) and Queensland Country Outlaws (9-8). They also drew with the Chiefs (5-all).

But in a huge blow to their title defence, Australia representative Sarah Peattie injured her knee and may not take any further part in the tournament.

The Chiefs could find themselves in the box seat if results go their way.

They had the toughest draw out of any team on day one – playing the semi-finalists of last year – and came away unscathed with a win and two draws.

New South Wales Rebels find themselves in fourth spot after they hammered the Queensland Stingrays 8-2 in their final match of the day.

They’re on equal points with The Alliance. Both teams had a win, a draw and a loss.

The Outlaws and Stingrays could only manage one win a piece, while the Mavericks went none from three but showed they had plenty of fight in them.

Day two of the women’s Elite Eight begins at 10.40am.
